How to reach Mcleodganj:

Nestled amidst the majestic hills and lush greenery, Mcleodganj is 500 km from Delhi and about 250 km from Chandigarh. There are several modes of transportation available to go to Mcleodganj. For the sake of your comfort and convenience, you can opt to come in your own car. If not then you choose to come by public transport like train, bus or air.

If you are travelling by air, the closest airport to Mcleodganj is Gaggal Airport which is located 10 km away from Dharamshala. Other private operators also provide nighttime buses between Delhi and Dharamshala. However, the ideal way to reach Mcleodganj from Delhi is by taking a Volvo of either HRTC or HPTDC. Other private operators also provide nighttime buses between Delhi and Dharamshala. The third and cheapest method, but the most time-consuming, is to go by rail to Mcleodganj or Triund. A train to Pathankot takes around 6-7 hours.

Indrahar Pass Trek, Mcleodganj Itinerary

  • Arrive at Mcleodganj a day early to explore the local places and taste the local food. Mcleodganj is a lovely place in itself with a Tibetan vibe and a British feel.
  • The trek will start early in the morning at around 9 AM. As we ascend, the trek will surround you all with mesmerising views and vistas.
  • The trail will walk you through a mixed forest of oak, rhododendron and deodar trees.
  • Allow your eyes to catch the magnificence they haven't seen before as we approach the Triund top. Before returning to Mana village for the night, fill the treasure box with happy memories.

Trekking

  • Wake up early as the view here is always magnificent.
  • After the sumptuous breakfast, prepare yourself to witness the fascinating Lahesh Caves located at a height of 3,500m.
  • It's not the trek that is challenging here but the weather and terrain. And as much as we all would want to stay here, it is best to visit the caves in the afternoon and then proceed soon after.
  • The second milestone today will be the Snowline Cafe before we reach Ilaqa Got.
  • Ilaqa Got is situated at the snout of a small glacier. It is usually full of snow and ice at the start of summer but the snow melts as the monsoon hits. This will be our campsite for the night.

  • This is the day when we finally reach Indrahar Pass, so stay excited and prepared.
  • The trail is completely uphill and takes you through rocky terrain, but every step you take will keep you amazed and engaged.
  • As you walk along, you will witness the most enticing panoramic views of the Dhauladhar Range and other Himalayan peaks.
  • As the light begins to fall, start making your way back to Ilaqa Got for an overnight stay.

  • As you near the end of the trek, take in the breathtaking vista of Indrahar Pass for one last time.
  • Pack everything and start trekking the same trails you did the first and second days.
  • A 4-hour steady hike will ultimately get you back to McLeodganj.
